MARIA MARTINEZ, Ph.D.

Clinical Psychologist

TRAINING

I am a clinical psychologist with expertise working with individuals, children and families. As a graduate of one of the best programs in the country, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by internship at the Charleston Consortium at the Medical University of South Carolina, both accredited programs by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCAS), I provide exceptional clinical care grounded in research and science. Postdoctoral training in Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) augment this experience. I have co-authored publications, presented at national conferences, and am a co-investigator and consultant on research studies. Prior to doctoral training, I worked at the National Institute of Mental Health involved in mood disorder research.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This means that my emphasis is tailoring evidence-based or evidence-informed practices for you. I have training in additional modalities and advanced training and experience conducting assessments and therapy bilingually in Spanish and English.

TAILORING SERVICES FOR YOU

With significant experience providing therapy to children and adults, I tailor behavioral and cognitive behavioral interventions to fit clients' needs. Creating an environment that is supportive, fosters success and builds on current strengths are cornerstones of my practice. I have experience providing assessment and effective interventions (very early on or after previous attempts have been unhelpful). Moreover, I enjoy working with families of diverse household compositions, world views and backgrounds. This leads to quality services delivered in a warm, welcoming environment.
